PRANIC FOOD - MEANING, LIST & BENEFITS.


Before knowing about PRANIK FOOD, let us understand the meaning of the word PRANIK.

The word Pranik stems from the Sanskrit word "Prana" meaning "vital life force" which is an ancient science and art of healing that utilizes prana or Ki energy to heal the whole physical body. It also involves the manipulation of Ki and bioplasmic matter of the patient's body.

Living a PRANIK LYFESTYLE is about shifting your focus from nourishing your body with denser sources (food) to less dense sources (energy), all the while keeping in mind that food is not bad, you can enjoy food if you want to, but the abundance comes in knowing that you don't need it to survive.


Our food are categorised in three groups :

1. Positive Pranik : food that ignites life energy within.

2. Neutral Pranik : food that doesn't do much, other than making you lethargic. 

3. Negative Pranik : food that takes away your life energy.


LIST OF PRANIK FOOD:

 

A. Neutral Pranik Food: anything that is driven by TASTE.

9. Intoxicants.


C. Positive Pranik Food: anything that gets 

DIGESTED QUICKLY & DOES NOT ROT in 

the system.




1. Fruits.

2. Vegetables.

3. Nuts.

4. Sprouted Grams.

5. Dried Fruits.

6. Ash Gourd.

7. Honey.

8. Coconut.

9. Legumes.

10. Sweet Spices – cinnamon, cardamom, 

mint, basil, turmeric, ginger, cumin, fennel.

11. Plant-based oils – sesame, sunflower, olive oil.



If we look at the classification, what are the food that false under Positive Pranik Food , the list is bigger. If we look at the negative pranik list it is bit shorter, but unfortunately it may be be a list of all your favourite things too. 




On top of the negative pranik list is garlic. Garlic is a very powerful medicine , but it's one thing to consume as a medicine , and it is a different thing to consume it as a daily food substance. It has many medicinal properties , in Ayurveda and Siddha, it is used in a very powerful way for specific ailments. But if your logic is , every day if you pop whatever medicine you can you will be healthy . In Ayurveda it is said that every leaf , every root found on this planet gas some medicinal quality, it's just that , only a few have learned how to use. Others we are yet to learn how to use. Otherwise, every one of them has some medicinal quality if we are willing to pay attention and learn how to use them. 


So, now if you want to be healthy , what you do is, just go and eat as much leaf as possible and also take up few roots and eat it, you will be very healthy, that's not how it works. Something specific for a specific problem is different. Just generally consuming medicinal substances is a different game, isn't it ? Garlic is a very powerful medicine if properly used, daily consumption is NO, NO, because it plays on your nervous system big time. It is a very strong nervous stimulant. If you use garlic, your nervous system gets stimulated , anything that stimulates your nervous system holds you up for some time and then dumps you. Daily usage of nervous stimulants in any form will slowly get you into a place that you become insensitive to life, that you cannot experience. 


Now , your holding dog is the ideal, because he is sensitive than you , his nervous system is far more sensitive than yours, because he can feel things and know things that you cannot know. Humans are a higher design than a dog, so we should be more sensitive than a dog. 


The list therefore has - garlic, onion, asafoetida, green chilli or chilli peppers(hot), coffee, tea, all these are nervous stimulants. Once in a while if you drink, they have some benefits. But if it becomes a daily thing, slowly it dulls your nervous system , your ability to experience life is gone. We are looking at this dimension of the food mainly in terms of your sensitivity to life. Largely people are ego sensitive , they are not life sensitive, they can't feel life. For them, only their thought and emotions is life, because they can not feel life. If you walk into a forest, you can't feel the tree, that's why you call it a wood, you can't feel the creatures around you . Simply because, the sensitivity is gone , in so many ways - one thing is, just the modern life, television, the traffic, these constant reverberations, always something is buzzing, it has a very bad effect on the human system . 


We humans are also a kind of reverberation. There must be space , to allow our reverberations to grow and spread. Now, these machines have such powerful reverberations that constantly something is going on, on top of it , what we cannot here, all these wifi and stuff, they are doing their own thing. In all this, there is no room for you to become life-sensitive. To just sit in a place and be able to experience the whole universe, takes a certain level of sensitivity. I am referring all these in context of nervous stimulant, you are lowering the possibility of experiencing life. 


For example , if you touch a pot or glass of water , not everybody will feel the touch the same way, it depends on how your sensitive your system is. If you feel this, you can know many things, if you are willing . I am not against drinking coffee or tea ,what I want to clarify is , a cup of coffee should not determine the quality of your life. By choice you drink today, tomorrow you walk away, it's fine. But if it's a compulsion.... "if I do not drink your coffee, my day is ruined", then you have to do something about it. The only parameter is : are you moving towards freedom , or are you getting enslaved in some way, with just a cup of liquid? 


Do everything by choice, there is no problem, if you do it by choice, then you know when to start , when to stop. If you do by compulsion , what you start , you cannot stop. It's not like you become a fanatic, "I don't eat this, I don't eat that, I eat this" , don't become a food fanatic, it's just that , eat by choice . Every meal must be by choice. Don't make food into a religion, it is not. It is a choice according to the need of this body, not according to social or cultural needs.


Other Negative pranic foods are those nervous stimulants, intoxicants.

Zero pranic foods are tomatoes, potatoes, 





So, among positive foods , there are a few which are very positive - Ash gourd / Winter melon, fruits, vegetables, nuts, dry fruits, black pepper, honey is one substance on the planet whose chemical composition is very close to human blood , daily consumption of honey can do wonderful things to you, honey is an extremely good thing to eat especially if you have children at home, make hone culture part of your thing, it gives psychological stability, physical well-being, vitality, all these can be greatly enhanced simply by consuming daily honey. If you have excess fat in your body, drink honey with warm water, it breaks down the fat in the system. If you drink it with cold water, it will give you weight. 





You go on a proper balanced vegetarian diet with at least 40-50% of it live food in uncooked condition, you will see you will be so much brighter, livelier, all your diseases will go away. People go to Naturopathy centres and all their disease goes away, just because they change the food pattern, it’s a proven fact, number of people have dropped their ailments  mainly just by changing their food habits and doing some other kriyas or exercises. Now you have diabetes, blood pressure, even cardiac ailments mainly because of your food habits.


How you eat is important, once you are human just do everything consciously. Eating should also happen consciously , it is not the question of is this right, is this wrong ? What is most suitable for the system that’s what you should eat.


Some of the top level athletes have shifted to vegetarian diet these days. Most of the martial art people are all 100% vegetarians. Their physical is quite incredible, Bruce Lee was a vegetarian, because the flexibility of the muscles will be lost with too much non-vegetarian food.  Non-vegetarian food is mainly consumed because you need protein. Vegetarian cooked diet has low protein  level , that is a one big mistake. You need only 3% protein for your body, almost every vegetable , every fruit if it’s eaten in its raw condition has the necessary protein that your body wants, when you cook it it’s not enough.


With non-vegetarian food the protein content is too high . If you consume too much of protein it causes cancer. Western countries have far more larger incidents of cancer than in the eastern countries. One main reason is consumption of excessive protein through non-vegetarian food.

So, somebody is doing better, not just because of their non-vegetarian food, a overall sense of well being has been created in the society ,the general living conditions have enhanced. How many of city children have even enough space to play , they are living in one, two or three room apartments. So, how can this grow up well and live for a long time with good health. When children play be active, they naturally eat well, grow well, their whole system is in a better condition. So, it is not just the food but there are many many  conditions which are not there and the attitude also . Most parents are not physically  active, it is quite normal to believe that the human shape is like this 👇

More than the 50-60% of the people are of different shape than what human being should be.


So, when you are in that type of condition, your physical activity levels would be very low, so naturally the body will not last, long enough in a healthy way with fitness. Very few men and women regularly  either swim, or play a game, or run, or climb a mountain, or  do trekking or cycle, or do any physical exercise. But if you eat proper vegetarian food , then you will see your life gets greatly enhanced.

When we are reaching for survival, we could eat whatever we lay our hands on, but now that we choices then we have to chose what's best for our body. If we don't chose like this then we will some how live and go, all these things are relevant only for those people who are constantly striving how to better their life , how to perform little better, how to open up another dimension of life. Food can be consumed in various ways but it helps you survive and thrive only when it is consumed mostly in raw form.  As per Yogis, to remain healthy and fit a person should include at least 40%-50% of raw food in his diet.


Have you ever thought about which is that one food that has all the qualities of a SUPER-FOOD !

Let me tell you that it is GROUNDNUT - BANANA shake. Groundnut has terrific health benefits, which doubles when it is consumed with banana. This is one of the most amazing Pranic food (Pranic is a Yogic term for vital energy in the body, food that helps this energy to increase) which can keep you energetic the whole day. This food is considered one of the most potent food. This food has miraculous and amazing benefits. In this blog I will explain the benefits of the most powerful food in the world.


Food means many things to many people, but essentially for the body it is a FUEL. If you put the right kind of fuel , it will be ON in a certain way, if you put the wrong kind of fuel , it will somehow manage.


I am not telling you eat this way , eat that way, just experiment and see . Tonight if you instead of eating whatever food is cooked, just eat fruits and see how tomorrow morning you will not need an alarm bell, you will wake-up before the bell rings. Your eyes will not sticking , you wake-up and instantly you are bright and alert. People do not know what it means to be absolute ease within their body , unfortunately 95% of people do not know this. This is only because you have been putting in wrong kind of fuel , with right kind of fuel you can keep this body like a breeze , simply it goes ahead of you , you do not have to drag it where ever  you go, it must float ahead of you. 


Of all the things , the GROUNDNUT,  it has everything you need - 6.1 grams of carbs, 166 calories, 6.7 grams of protein, 2,3 grams of fibre , 14.1 grams of fat. Just soak one hand-full of groundnut over night and one banana , your entire day would go , perfectly active , more active than most of the people will ever imagine. It has everything to sustain you, proteins, healthy fats, dietary fibre, it is a complete food by itself. If you soak it for 6-8 hours it takes away certain aspects which are called as PITTA . Allopathic doctors don't look at it , but the AYURVEDA is based on this - USHNA (heat), SHEETA (coldness) & PITTA (excess generation of heat in the body, acid reflux, gas,indigestion,inflammation of the joints).


Taking this soaked groundnut, chew it well and eating , make sure it's not some genetically engineered groundnut. One thing is, it could be genetically modified, another thing is you are pumping in fertilisers and pesticides to such an extent that the groundnut is no more a groundnut . Just make sure it is more organic thing .



If you want a breakfast, you want a recipe - take a hand-full of groundnut, soak it in water for 6-8 hours, put it in a mixie, if you want to add some fruit then add a banana (banana goes well with it) or also any other fruit of your choice,  may add about one tea spoon of honey & little water , then mix for 2 minutes  & you have excellent breakfast ready. If you want it little watery, put little more water to it and drink it up. If you want it like porridge then make it thick and eat. DOING NO  EXERCISE  MAY  LEAD  TO  PREMATURE  BRAIN  DEGENERATION.


Is exercise only for losing weight ? 
There is a huge misconception , Most people talk about losing weight , eating better, better habits, etc, but they forget the number one reason for exercising. It is for the most important part of your body, YOUR BRAIN !

The real reason you should exercise is , if you don't get regular movement, your brain will degenerate prematurely. This sounds like a pretty big statement , so in today's blog will go through some of the mechanisms that you have absolute no doubt how this works. I will help you understand that it is not possible to have optimal health without regular movement.

Degenerative brain diseases are caused by the decline and death of nerve cells called neurons. These diseases are progressive, meaning that the condition worsens over time as greater numbers of neurons in the brain die. Degenerative brain diseases include types of dementia like ALZHEMER'S disease, FRONTOTEMPORAL DEMENTIA and LEW BODY DEMENTIA.


CAUSE & EFFECT :

You may be doing all the right things - eating low carbs , eating less frequently, switching from processed food to whole food , but the one thing you are still not doing is regular EXERCISE. 
I hope myself will be able to bring across to you in this blog - How important it is , it is critical , exercise is not optional if you want to have optimum health.

Most people say that OBESITY is the problem, the general idea is obesity cause - BP, Arthritis, Diabetes etc., we have actually cause and effect mixed up. Most people think obesity is the cause of these mentioned issues. Whereas these are caused by ISULIN RESISTANCE. What has exercise to do with all this . Most doctors will tell that you need to exercise to lose weight and then all the issues will go away. It wont work that way. It will only work if you are insulin sensitive . Exercise may contribute to 5-10% in reducing the insulin resistance, but the way you will reduce insulin resistance is by eating less sugar , less carbs and less frequently. 
What I wanted to emphasis is that , exercise is not the main path to solve these problems. 

Then why exercise ?

Who Needs Exercise ? 

Let us take 3 categories :

1. Rock.




2. Plant.


3. Animal.




We humans fit in the Animal category. Brain is something that the other 2 do not have. The difference is the BRAIN. So, who needs to exercise ? the answer is "Those who have Brains need to exercise". 

Why do we at all have a brain ? 

We are conditioned to the answer that - the brain thinks. We think that thinking is the primary purpose of the brain. But that is not even close to the big picture.

What is the basic difference between you & the bunch of amoebas in a pond . You have 40 trillion cells in your body vs 40 Trillion Amoebas in a pond. They are very similar to your cellular structure . The difference is you have one organism , you have a unifying principal called NERVOUS SYSTEM. The nervous system allows your cells to be aware of each other , as a result they have a common purpose and a common goal.

The purpose of the brain is to coordinate function between those cells. To allow the cells what they need to do under different circumstances and create balance or HOMEOSTASIS.
The 2nd purpose is to coordinate movement , because now when you have a common purpose you need to able to move around and do things towards that common goal. 

rock is not alive and do not move , so doesn't need a brain. A plant is alive but do not move so, do not need a nervous system to guide it, so do not need a brain. We humans or animals are alive and do move , so that is the purpose of  brain. Things that don't have cells that work together don't have brains.






A very appropriate example is the SEA SQUIRT. This is an interesting life form, it starts a life as an egg, then turns into a tadpole like that of a frog. This tadpole has a primitive nervous system, it has about 177 Neurons , or brain cells , it has a sensory organ (eye) to detect the environment to which it interacts and responds. It has a tail and it can move, it has every property of a tadpole or an animal. But it only has these things so that it can move about and find one place to call home. Once it selects that one place , then it settles down and never moves again . Now it becomes a plant , soon as it went from an animal to a plant , then it stops moving and does not now need a brain any more. It now gets rid of its brain, it eats it's brain or reabsorbs it's brain . 


USE IT OR LOSE IT :




This is an incredibly powerful principle. If you have a muscle, you work it out by putting some stress and tension on that muscle, then it performs some work and body is going to create some growth. The stress sends signals to the brain , that says we need to get better on this as he might do it again tomorrow, thus get strong muscles to perform that work again.

Now if you injure yourself, you fall and break your arm and put your hand in a cast , now it sits in the cast for 6 weeks, now that muscle gets involuntarily rest and hardly moves at all. Now, your muscle starts degenerating , protein has a half life, it wears out, only when you move that muscle for growth then it rebuilds itself. But if it breaks down and you are not stimulating it, then it is not going to rebuild the missing pieces, and now you start a process called  ATROPHY or degenerating, now you get a skinny muscle. 



The same thing happens to the brain , may be even faster. Normally when you move an arm,  that movement sends signal to the brain and the job of the brain is to process that signal and control the arm. When you put your arm in a cast, then there are no more signals going to brain, the brain do not get stimulated , and just like the muscle that doesn't get stimulated , it starts to degenerate, which leads to brain shrinkage. With body parts movement, signals go to a specific area of the brain corresponding to that body part, and now that area of the brain starts degenerating and get a soft spot in the brain, a less healthy tissue area in your brain.


EXERCISE & SIGNALS : 


How are the signals in the body generated and what it has to do with exercise ?

Any time you have stretch or movement in the body, there are various receptors :

1. Mechano-receptors : Touch, Pressure , Skin Stretch , & Joint Motion.  From these are the most signals that reach the brain , for the brain to guide the motion and reaction. This is how the brain knows where your which parts are, remember your brain has no eyes.

2. Golgi Tendon Organ : Tenson-Tension (muscle) , where a muscle connects to a tendon and the tendon inserts to a bone. The muscle is actually strong enough to rip that tendon off the bone, there needs to be a sensor that tells the brain how much tension there is, so that it can slow the muscle down before it cause the injury.

3. Muscle Spindle Cells: This tells how the muscles are changing in length.

All of these are incredibly important information and this is most what the brain does - SIGNALS KEEP THE BRAIN ALIVE.


PURPOSE OF THE BRAIN :

1. Process Signals- that is why we have it. Coordinate the signals and function between the cells.

2. 90% Of These Signals Comes From Body Movement- movements generates these signals.


3. Mostly The Signals Comes From The Spine- 


That's because spine has lot of moving parts and the spine has higher receptor density than any other part of the body. Spine is the foundation or the platform from which all other body part works , the shoulder can only be stabilised after the spine is stable, so are the head and all other parts. When you walk, run, or when you stretch, you are always moving the spine. Even breathing creates a little bit of spine movement if you relax and have full breath when doing it. 

Chiropractic is the way to unlock your spine, if your spine is stuck then it do not help even if you walk, run or stretch because those signals are still not being generated.




Yoga is primarily about spine flexibility that most of the stretches are some how related to the muscles that make your spine flexible. Same things with Pilates and Core. These are excellent exercises that make  more signals around the spine and thus more signals for the brain. 

"MOVEMENT  IS THE JUICE THAT KEEPS THE BRAIN ALIVE".




What about people in COMA , there is no movement of body, very few signals are generated , as a result there is BRAIN DEGENERATION. What follows from this, is  MUSCLE  CONTRACTURES that can lead to permanent deformities. When the brain degenerates it loses it's ability to inhibit & muscles gets tighten-up, so the brain turns things ON & OFF . So, in order to set the muscle tone, it has to both turn ON & OFF continuously at the same time. So, they perform PHYSICAL THERAPY for hours every day to generate brain signals and try to keep the brain alive to minimise the deformities. 

MOVING THE BODY PARTS KEEP THE BRAIN FROM DYING.

BENEFITS OF EXERCISE:

What kind of activities or exercises you need to do to get certain benefits. I have published many blogs on exercise and fitness routine , request you to go through them to know more about the details .




1. BRAIN ACTIVATION -  Use It Or Lose It : This is by far the biggest reason to exercise.

2. BLOOD CIRCULATION : Blood circulation provides drainage , it brings nutrients to the tissues and it brings waste products from the tissues , if you can increase that circulation then you can increase the distribution of both nutrients and waste , which helps in DETOX.
We have a weird modern notion that we have to go to a GYM and do some special activity, you have to suffer, you have to produce blood sweating tears otherwise it doesn't count. It is all about moving your body through space against the feel of gravity and in doing so you generate signals to stimulate brain. 





Yard work, cycling, trekking, running.... things that you can do over a long period of time with lots of repetition and movement are great. Other examples are - swimming, tennis, golf etc., it's not that these are better than anything else, just examples. Do something that you enjoy, you like it and feel good then it's better for your brain. 





3. HORMONES : 



If you have been a couch potato for number of years or few decades, then you probably have some brain degeneration and if you want to reverse that then you have to do little bit more than the examples mentioned above, those are beneficial but not going to produce the intensity that challenges your body to make HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE (HGH) & BRAIN DERIVED NEUROTROHIC FACTOR (BDNF) - these are hormones that allows you to make new brain cells, even a few years ago they did not know that you can make new brain cells, they thought that you have certain numbers and as go through your life they go fewer and fewer and that's why you age. Today they know that you can make new brain cells , even more importantly , you can shape your brain - Neuroplasticity, you can make connections , you can rewire your brain, learn new things, you can expand certain areas of your brain. All of these is because of HORMONES, this is like a miracle. 




You can pretty much make these hormones in proportion to the intensity of the exercise that you perform. For this we have to do exercises with some weight, Sprints, HIIT (high intensity interval training ), you have to push your body , challenge it so that it has the reason to get better. 








But you do not need to do lot of these , you could do this 10-20 minutes a week , or 10-20 minutes in a day, twice a week, depending upon your physical capability, it doesn't take tremendous amount of your time, but has to be intense (Please read my previous blogs on short duration exercises/cardio, for the same).
